Matthew Perry’s tragic and untimely passing left fans heartbroken and now, a new documentary is set to shed light on the unsettling details surrounding his death. Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy, premiering on Peacock on February 25, takes a deep dive into the investigation, uncovering shocking allegations and raising questions about the people who may have played a role in the actor’s final days. The documentary features insights from friends, experts and investigators who piece together Perry’s last moments and the circumstances that led to his passing at 54.

The newly released trailer opens with the chilling 911 dispatch call made on October 29, 2023, when Perry was found unresponsive in his Los Angeles home.

“This could not be true. “How could this possibly be true?” an insider says, grappling with the devastating news.

Flashes of Perry’s most iconic moments on Friends follow, with footage of him alongside Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Courteney Cox at the height of the show’s success. A longtime fan emotionally recalls, “He was my favourite because he just made me laugh all the time.”

Morgan Fairchild, who played Chandler Bing’s mother, shares heartfelt words about her on-screen son, saying, “He really touched people’s lives.” But as the documentary reveals, Perry’s life behind the scenes was far more complicated.

Those close to him describe how his battle with addiction consumed him, with Hollywood’s culture of excess making things worse. “They really preyed on somebody vulnerable. He was doing so well. Everyone thought he was clean and sober. That’s when we knew that there’s way more to this story,” one person says.

The documentary also examines the legal case that emerged in May 2024, when authorities charged five people in connection with Perry’s death, including two medical doctors, his personal assistant and an alleged drug dealer known as the Ketamine Queen.

Martin Estrada, U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, confirms the investigation’s findings. “He had died as a result of ketamine. The defendants have all been charged. Three of them have pled guilty and will be cooperating. Two remain,” Estrada states.

Estrada further highlights the disturbing details of the case, adding, “The allegations show a trained doctor is injecting Mr Perry in parking lots. We used to blame the victim. We don’t do that anymore.”

As the trailer concludes, an insider reflects on the media frenzy surrounding the case: “This story has become so big that we’re really forgetting this story is about one man and that he will be missed.”

The final moments of the trailer pay tribute to Perry’s unparalleled comedic brilliance. A clip from the 1996 Screen Actors Guild Awards shows Courteney Cox proudly declaring, “Matthew Perry is the funniest person in the whole world.”

With two of the accused pleading not guilty and awaiting trial, Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy promises to be a compelling look at the ongoing case, the people involved and the lasting impact of Perry’s life and career.
