The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC) Belagavi) will hold a recruitment rally for war-wounded soldiers in Belagavi on Tuesday. A seminar about the War Wounded Foundation (WWF) will also be organised.

Lieutenant General (retired) Asit Mistry, who is the president of War Wounded Foundation, told reporters in Belagavi on Monday that they are expecting around 120 war-wounded soldiers for the recruitment rally for various posts.

The seminar is aimed at creating awareness about facilities available for war-wounded soldiers. It will be presided over by Brigadier Joydeep Mukherjee who is the Commandant of MLIRC.

Lt. Gen. Mistry said that War Wounded Foundation is an NGO that works for war-wounded soldiers of the Army, Navy and Air Force.

The foundation also takes into account the soldiers who are wounded during the battle on the Line of Control (LoC) with enemies, saving human beings from natural disasters and other such instances.

“Monday’s seminar will be an opportunity to reach out to the maximum number of war-wounded soldiers and interact with them. During the seminar, they will share their experiences,” he said.

War Wounded Foundation, which runs on donations from various corporate companies, industrialists and individuals, provides various facilities to wounded soldiers to generate self-employment to earn a regular income, upskill them, provide modified disabled-friendly scooters and wheelchairs and launch start-ups.

The foundation also supports wounded soldiers by providing counselling. It has also set up a helpline for psychological counselling.

“According to records, the number of wounded soldiers is around three times greater than the death of soldiers on the battlefield. After facing battle on the battlefield at a young age, they face a battle in their life on an everyday basis due to their injuries. They battle with their physique. It’s a lifelong battle they fight. Their family also suffers. They do all this just to safeguard our country at the risk of their lives. Society must be worthy of their sacrifices by looking after them,” he said.

Lt. Gen. Mistry said that the foundation is now a pan-India NGO and there is no dearth of funds to help war-wounded soldiers and their families. Many corporations and industries have regularly donated to the foundation for the past several years, considering the work it is doing.
