Lyricist-singer Swanand Kirkire reacted to YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s jokes on India’s Got Latent. He was of the opinion that Ranveer, along with comedian Samay Raina, and others, got the punishment they deserved and that they should be forgiven now.

Speaking at India Today’s Sahitya AajTak, Kirkire said, “A certain decorum should be maintained. What actually happened is that cameras became a part of our lives, and we didn’t even realise the difference between conversations meant for friends and those meant for family. Now, they should be forgiven; apologies have already been made.”

“There are many things in this country and the world that should never have been said, yet they were, and they were wrong. Our country has given them the punishment they deserved, and they have even apologised with tears,” he added.

The Tu Kisi Rail Si singer expressed his take on comedy. He said that comedy doesn’t boil down to roasting or humiliating others. He shared, “There shouldn’t be control through laws, which is why content creators must act responsibly. Otherwise, it will become a reason for legal restrictions, and once that happens, many voices will be silenced.”

It all started when Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, appeared on Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent and asked a contestant inappropriate questions on body parts and intimacy. The main question which drew flak was: “Would you watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join once to stop it forever?”

Following the incident, a police complaint was lodged against Ranveer, Samay and other co-judges present on the episode, including Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh and Apoorva Makhija.

While Ranveer Allahbadia has posted several apologies on social media, Samay Raina has deleted India’s Got Latent episodes from YouTube.
