Scholar Putha Pulla Reddy receives ‘Bhoothapuri Puraskar’

Litterateurs and academicians lauded the literary giant Bhoothapuri Subrahmanya Sarma as a scholar par excellence for having religiously pursued poetic form of literature throughout his life.

The award ‘Bhoothapuri Puraskar’ was presented to noted writer Putha Pulla Reddy at Sarma’s 88th birth anniversary celebrations, which also coincided with the 23rd memorial award function programme organised jointly by Bhoothapuri Subrahmanya Sarma Memorial Trust and Allasani Sahitya Peetham in Kadapa on Sunday.

Yogi Vemana University Vice-Chancellor K. Krishna Reddy hailed the scholar for having left his indelible impression in the literary landscape from 1953 to 2002, spanning five decades. Prof. Krishna Reddy explained how he had traversed through the literary realm, treading the path of his predecessors with his command over Sanskrit and Telugu languages.

Dr. YSR Architecture and Fine Arts University Vice-Chancellor G. Viswanatha Kumar called Bhoothapuri as a multi-faceted personality, showcasing his talent as a poet, avadhani, astrology and Vaasthu expert, thus serving the country.

The awardee Putha Pulla Reddy is an engineer by profession, but a writer, critic, commentator and a translator by passion. Chief speaker Salaka Raghunatha Sarma of Rajamahendravaram, who holds the ‘Mahamahopadhyaya’ title, recalled Bhoothapuri’s works on the literary trio viz., Valmiki, Vyasa and Kalidasa.

Akula Malleswara Rao, former Director of All India Radio (AIR Tirupati), CP Brown Bhasha Parisodhana Kendram Director G. Parvathy, YVU executive council member M. Mallikarjuna Reddy, and Penubala Institute of Medical Sciences Chairman P. Chandrasekhar were honoured by the late scholar Bhoothapuri’s sons Sivarama Surendra Sarma and Gopalakrishna Sastri.
