The functionaries of the Ambulance Owners and Drivers’ Association (AODA), who welcomed the unified tariff introduced by the State government, said that the majority of ambulance operators in the State support the new initiative. They also stated that they primarily consider the area as a service sector rather than a transport business to make a profit.

“In our association, there are 250 members, all of whom support the unified tariff and are ready to operate the service under the new tariff schedule. This will also help people to raise complaints against drivers who are suspected of collecting unfair charges,” says P.S. Sreepesh, secretary of AODA in Kozhikode district. He also pointed out that some ambulance operators in the State voluntarily charge less than the permitted fare out of compassion for the poor.
