T.N. govt to consider adding more beneficiaries under KMUT scheme: Udhayanidhi

The Tamil Nadu government is considering expanding the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam (KMUT) scheme to include more women beneficiaries in the next three months, said Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin in Chennai on Friday (February 14, 2025).

Speaking on the sidelines of a ‘free marriage’ ceremony for 30 couples, organised by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department, Mr. Udhayanidhi said nearly 1.15 crore women beneficiaries have been receiving ₹1,000 as grant every month in the State. The government is taking steps to include more beneficiaries in the scheme in the next three months, he said.

Listing out various schemes introduced by the DMK government since 2021, Mr. Udhayanidhi said the Dravidian movement was responsible for Tamil Nadu becoming the best State in terms of education. The Gross Enrolment Ratio in higher education in the State stood at 47%, which is the highest in the country, he said.

Mr. Udhayanidhi alleged that not even a single rupee was allocated to Tamil Nadu in the Union Budget, recently presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament. “Even the Finance Minister failed to mention ‘Tamil Nadu’ in her Budget speech,” he alleged.

Speaking at the function, HR&CE Minister P.K. Sekarbabu said he takes pride in calling the DMK government a “spiritual government” and alleged that “strategies are being made, behind the scenes as well, by many who function as Union government’s B teams to defeat the DMK government.” In spite of this, the party will win 200 seats in the 2026 Assembly elections, he said.
