Varun Dhawan recently revealed why he chose not to appear on Samay Raina’s show, India’s Got Latent. During an interview on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, the Baby John actor shared that while he enjoys the show’s humour, he was concerned about potential controversy.

When asked about Samay Raina’s rising popularity and his distinct comedic style, Varun explained that he was invited to appear on India’s Got Latent but decided against it to avoid any backlash. “He asked me to be on the show, and honestly, I’d love to go on it. I thrive in that kind of environment. I’m not scared of being cancelled, but my concern is that it could affect his show negatively. The more eyeballs you get with that type of humour, sometimes it becomes a crossfire,” Varun said.

Ranveer encouraged Varun to reconsider, but the actor reiterated his stance, saying, “I would do it in a heartbeat. I’m not worried for myself, but I think the teams I work with might have concerns. I’d have to do it when I’m not promoting something because it will definitely be a crossfire.”

The conversation comes at a time when India’s Got Latent has been at the centre of controversy. Ranveer Allahbadia, a 31-year-old podcaster with 4.5 million Instagram followers and over 10.5 million YouTube subscribers, recently faced backlash for making an inappropriate remark while judging a segment on the show. His comment sparked outrage, leading to widespread criticism online.

Amid the backlash, Ranveer issued a public apology via social media. “I shouldn’t have said what I said on India’s Got Latent. I’m sorry. My comment was inappropriate—it wasn’t even funny. Comedy isn’t my forte. Many of you asked if this is how I want to use my platform, and obviously, it’s not. I won’t offer any context or justification. I’m just here to apologise,” he said in a video statement.

Despite the controversy, India’s Got Latent continues to gain traction, with its bold format. Whether Varun Dhawan eventually makes an appearance remains to be seen.
