
The woman medico, who had sustained grievous injuries in a road mishap at Narsingi’s Khanapur road on February 1, died undergoing treatment on Sunday (February 9).
The deceased, identified as N. Bhoomika Reddy, 24, was working as a house surgeon at Kamineni Hospital of LB Nagar. On February 1, she was returning from a friend’s wedding in Shankarpally with her colleague Jaswant when he lost control of his hatchback car bearing the number ‘TS 02 EX 5656’ and rammed into a hoarding pole on the divider.
While Mr. Jaswant died on the spot, Ms. Bhoomika was shifted to Continental Hospitals in Gachibowli, where she underwent intensive treatment for seven days. However, on February 8, doctors declared her brain dead, an official release from Jeevandan Telangana said.
Ms. Bhoomika’s family decided to donate her organs, allowing five critically-ill patients to receive a new lease on life. As part of the Jeevandan initiative, her liver, heart, lungs and both kidneys were harvested and successfully transplanted into recipients in need.
According to the press release from Continental Hospitals, Ms. Bhoomika was the only child to Nangi Nandakumar Reddy and N. Lohitha. After completing her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from a prestigious medical college, she undertook her internship at Kamineni Hospital in LB Nagar, Hyderabad.
