Guwahati, Feb 6: The inaugural edition of the Guwahati Asian Film Festival (GAFF) 2025 is set to commence on February 7 at Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio in Guwahati. The three-day festival, designed for film enthusiasts, creators, and industry professionals, will kick off with an opening ceremony at 5:30 pm.

The festival will feature the Iranian film In the Arms of the Tree by renowned director Babak Khajehpasha, following the inauguration.

Distinguished guests at the event will include Sri Lankan filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage, Indian actor Sheeba Chaddha, and Assam’s Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, IAS.

GAFF 2025, organized by Trending Now Media, will present 25 feature films selected from over 200 submissions across Asia. Participating countries include Iran, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Azerbaijan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Turkey. A special section will highlight films from North-East India, with awards for Best Film, Best Direction, and Best Performance, showcasing the region’s cinematic talent.

Monita Borgohain, IAS, Honorary Festival Director, shared her enthusiasm for the event, inviting all cinema lovers to join in celebrating the power of storytelling through films.

Due to high demand, online delegate registration closed early on January 31. The festival is expected to attract filmmakers, critics, students, and cinephiles, offering a unique opportunity for cultural exchange and dialogue.

In addition to screenings, the festival will host panel discussions and workshops with industry experts, creating a space for collaboration and networking among filmmakers and attendees.
