Gangnam Style singer PSY recently revealed plans to launch a new girl group under his music label, P Nation. The exciting announcement comes three years after the agency introduced five member male group TNX, which includes Aehun, Hyunsoo, Junhyeok, Hwi and Sungjun. Reports suggest that (G)I-DLE’s Soyeon has partnered with PSY as the main producer for the girl group. She will be involved in every stage, from selecting the artist to recording the tracks. While many are excited about the upcoming group, some fans are concerned, as PSY’s agency has struggled to properly manage its current artists. Many are wondering how the agency will handle a new group.
According to Instiz, many people aren’t happy that TNX has not released a song in a long time. Others feel that the quality of their music has dropped and that the agency has not properly promoted their artists’ albums or songs in the past. Besides the boy band, PSY’s agency also manages solo artists like Crush, Heize, Swings, Hwasa, An Shin-ae and Daniel Jikal.
PSY and Soyeon have worked together on several projects. In 2022, Soyeon’s song Tomboy from (G)I-DLE’s album I Never Die became a huge hit and broke records. That same year, both the artists appeared on Radio Star, where Soyeon shared an interesting story. She revealed that she made PSY listen to the song’s demo version and he confidently predicted that it would become a big success.
She said, “I once had Mr PSY listen to it, when it was just a demo. He said, ‘Oh, it’s nice. I think this will hit the jackpot.’ So I got confidence from that. My company listens to all of my songs, including the title track, I had them listen to it, and they said, ‘Soyeon, I don’t think we have to listen to the other tracks. That’s it for us.’ If I wasn’t confident, I wouldn’t even have asked him to listen to it. After finishing the chorus, I thought, ‘Am I a genius…?’ This is it.”
Other than Soyeon, (G)I-DLE also features Miyeon, Minnie, Yuqi and Shuhua.
