“Demography, economy, and technological advancements are key to India’s strategic autonomy,” said Manjeev Singh Puri, former Indian Ambassador to the European Union and Nepal and Deputy Permanent Representative to the the United Nations.

He was delivering a lecture organised by the Department of International Relations and Politics, Central University of Kerala (CUK), in association with the Public Diplomacy Division, Ministry of External Affairs.

According to Mr. Puri, India’s demographic potential, if harnessed through human resource development, can help the country secure a prominent position globally.

“To sustain its strategic autonomy, India must prioritise economic growth and technological advancements.” Mr. Puri highlighted this by comparing the economic development and growth data of the U.S. and China with India’s progress.

The lecture was followed by an interactive session. Professor R. Suresh, head of the Department of International Relations, Professor K. Jayaprasad, Dean of the School of Global Studies, and Dr. Reinhart Philip, coordinator of the Centre for Defence & Security Studies, CUK, also spoke at the occasion.
