Sub-Inspector assaulted in Indore for stopping car for checking

An on-duty sub-inspector of the Madhya Pradesh Police was assaulted in Indore by four men who also tried to hold him hostage after he stopped their car for checking, police said on Thursday (February 6, 2025). Two of the accused, including a prison department employee, have been arrested.

According to the police, the incident took place early on Wednesday (February 5, 2025) when uniform-clad SI Teleshwar Ekka, with the Bangagna police station, was deployed to check vehicles in the area. A purported video of the alleged incident also surfaced on the Internet, showing the men slapping and abusing the policeman, asking for his identity card and forcing him into their SUV.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Indore Zone-3, Ramsnehi Mishra told The Hindu that Mr. Ekka had stopped a “suspicious car” for checking and the four men, returning from a party, assaulted him when he questioned them.

“The men misbehaved and abused him, and even tried to force him into their car,” he said, adding that two of the accused had been arrested.

The two have been identified as Vikas Dabi, posted as a guard at a jail in Alirajpur district’s Jobat, and Ravi Nayak, the Additional SP said.

Mr. Mishra said an FIR had been registered under various Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of loot, assault and holding hostage.

“The other two accused have also been identified and teams are working to nab them. All four accused are from Indore,” he said, adding that Mr. Ekka did not suffer any injuries.

Later on Thursday (February 6, 2025), another purported video appeared on the Internet showing some police personnel escorting the two accused, who are seen limping and with injuries and bandages.

When asked, Mr. Mishra said the accused were taken to the spot to recreate the crime scene and that their injuries were due to an accident they suffered before the incident.
