Assam Generates 24 MW Solar Energy Under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana: CM Sarma

Guwahati, Feb 6: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state has successfully generated 24 MW of electricity through solar panels installed on rooftops under the Central government’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

In a social media post, CM Sarma highlighted that over 6,500 households have installed rooftop solar panels across the state under this initiative, which has resulted in significant electricity savings for consumers. “The people of Assam are rapidly adopting the solar power revolution through the @PMSuryaGhar Yojana. These 6,500 households have generated over 24 MW of power, resulting in major savings for the people,” he wrote.

The scheme is part of India’s broader push to increase renewable energy use. At a recent summit organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, emphasized the government’s goal of reaching 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, with a long-term target of 1,800 GW by 2047. This will position India as a global leader in clean energy and contribute to worldwide decarbonization efforts.

Joshi also noted that India’s renewable energy capacity has grown from 75 GW in 2014 to over 220 GW, and stressed the importance of energy security, financial support, and strong policies in driving the country’s energy transition.
