A group of third gender people have been booked for allegedly physically assaulting three transwomen in public in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, a police officer said on Wednesday (February 5, 2025).
According to the police, the incident took place about 10 days ago in the city’s Rajbada area when some third gender persons thrashed the three transwomen, all aged around 20 years, and cut some of their hair.
The M.G. Road police station in-charge, Vijay Singh Sisodia, told The Hindu that the the fight took place over the area in which they wished to seek alms.
“Some members of the kinnar community thrashed them as they believed that the transwomen were operating in their area,” Mr. Sisodia said, adding that the transwomen live in the Mahalakshmi Nagar area.
He said that a First Information Report (FIR) against unknown persons has been filed under relevant Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, no arrest has been made yet.
“The victims do not recognise the accused but we have formed a team to identify and arrest them,” Mr. Sisodia said.
