The city police have cracked the recent rape and murder case of domestic help in an apartment complex and arrested a water tanker driver who was supplying water to the same apartment for the crime.
A 28-year-old woman, an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh was found sexually abused and bludgeoned to death on the Kalkere Lake bed on January 24. Her husband had lodged a missing complaint when she did not return from work the previous day, which was converted into a murder case following the discovery of the body.
Ramamurthy Nagar Police have now arrested Mudukappa, a water tanker driver in the city, hailing from Bagalkote. Through technical investigations, the police zeroed in on five people who had been in the vicinity of Kalkere Lake Bed around the time of the crime, picked up all of them and Mudukappa reportedly confessed.
Mudukappa used to supply water to the apartment complex where the victim used to work. He reportedly spoke to her a few times to get acquainted with her. On January 23, the victim was returning home when the accused followed her and confronted her on Kalakere lake bed. The accused sexually assaulted her and when the victim resisted the accused raped her, strangulated her to death and later crushed her head with a boulder and escaped, the police said.
