Bollywood actresses Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Alia Bhatt, for instance, were both targeted—Aishwarya for taking her time to shed post-pregnancy weight and Alia for bouncing back too soon. No matter the pace, the judgment remains relentless.
Actor Swara Bhasker, who welcomed her daughter Raabiyaa in September 2023, recently opened up about the body shaming she has faced postpartum. Reflecting on the unfair expectations placed on women, she recalled how even a global beauty icon like Aishwarya Rai wasn’t spared from public scrutiny after childbirth.
Speaking to BBC News India, Swara observed, “Women in the glamour industry are never truly left alone. There’s always some level of judgment—whether it’s about their life choices, career, or even how they navigate motherhood.” She recalled Aishwarya Rai’s experience, noting how unflattering photos of the actress were deliberately circulated after she had her daughter Aaradhya. “I remember watching an interview where Aishwarya was asked about not getting back into shape quickly. She handled it with such grace. A less gracious person would have been angry, but she simply said, ‘I was just living my life with my baby… my real life.’ That resonated with me so much. If the world’s most beautiful woman wasn’t spared, who the hell am I?” Swara added.
Swara Bhasker, who married politician Fahad Ahmad under the Special Marriage Act in February 2023, continues to be a vocal advocate against societal pressures placed on women. While she has faced relentless trolling, her stance remains clear—motherhood is a personal journey, and no one should dictate how a woman should navigate it.
On the professional front, Swara was last seen in Mimamsa (2022), directed by Gagan Puri. The actress is now set to make her return to the screen in Mrs. Falani.
