Actress Pooja Hegde has been busy promoting her recently released film Deva, along with Shahid Kapoor. During a recent interview, the actress seemingly lost her patience after the interviewer repeatedly questioned her about working with ‘big’ Bollywood heroes, and whether luck played a role in securing these opportunities. While the actress patiently replied the first and the second time, she seemed visibly frustrated the third time, and asked what the interviewer’s problem was.
In an interaction with E24, Pooja Hegde was asked, “Kya ye sirf luck tha ke aate hi aapne Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor, saare bade heroes ke saath filmein mil rahi hai. You think luck plays a role? Or you think you actually deserve it? (Was it just luck that you were getting films with big heroes like Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor, all these big stars? Do you think luck plays a role, or do you think you actually deserve it?).” The actress seemed taken aback initially, but replied, “I mean…of course I deserve it. I think there must have been some reason jo unhone mujhe cast kiya tha wo films mein. (I think there must have been some reason why they cast me in those films).”
The interviewer then said that actors who have worked in the South and then foray into Bollywood have to struggle a lot to work with big actors. “But you got all big roles, big heroes,” he said, to which Pooja replied, “I think there’s a saying that ‘luck is when opportunity meets preparation.’ I think that’s what happened with me. When the opportunity came, I was preparing myself to be able to do it. So, if you want to call it luck, then sure.” Later, the interviewer again asked Pooja, “Aap films kaise choose karti hain? Bada hero? (How do you choose films? A big hero?)”. In response, an irritated Pooja Hegde replied, “Aapko kya problem hai mere se? (What’s your problem with me?)”.
Shahid Kapoor diffused the tension with humour, and jokingly said, “Andar hi andar ye bhi wo actors ke saath dance karna chahte hain. He wants to be you. (Deep down, he also wants to dance with those actors. He wants to be you).”
Pooja Hegde, who made her acting debut with the Tamil film Mugamoodi in 2012, forayed into Hindi cinema with the 2016 film ‘Mohenjo Daro’ alongside Hrithik Roshan. She went on to star in films such as ‘Housefull 4’, ‘Cirkus’, ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’, among others. Her latest film ‘Deva’ alongside Shahid, released in theatres on 31st January 2025.
