Assam Police Seize Elephant Tusks In Sivasagar, One Arrested

Guwahati, Jan 30: In a successful operation on January 30, Assam Police arrested an individual and seized three elephant tusks from him in the Baasbari area of Bihubor Tea Estate, Sivasagar. The arrest followed intelligence-based action, and the suspect was caught in possession of the tusks.

Authorities have launched a probe to trace the origin of the tusks and investigate potential links to illegal wildlife trafficking. The arrested man is currently being interrogated, and legal action is underway. Forest officials have been informed to support the investigation.

Earlier in the day, three men were arrested in Nagaon district for possessing illegal wildlife parts, including tiger claws, tiger canines, tiger bones, and an elephant tusk. The arrested individuals—Amar Hansey, Mahendra Borgrang, and Probin Sangma—are facing charges related to wildlife poaching and smuggling.
