Popular actor-turned-director Prithviraj Sukumaran recently sat for a candid conversation where he spoke about his aspirations as a filmmaker. The actor who has been a part of several Tamil, Hindi and Telugu films made his directing debut in 2019 with Lucifer. Here, Sukumaran revealed his desire to direct a film with Rajinikanth and Shah Rukh Khan.

During an interview with Galata India, Prithviraj said that he wanted to pitch a film to Rajinikanth. Although he didn’t reveal much, the actor-turned-filmmaker shared that it was an adaptation of an idea he had initially imagined for Shah Rukh Khan. For those who don’t know, Subaskaran Allirajah is known for films like Vidaamuyarchi, Vettaiyan, Ponniyin Selvan: I & II, Indian 2, and more.

The Kana Kandaen actor said, “I was in London, and I met Subaskaran sir. We were having lunch. I pitched him an idea that I wanted to do with Rajini sir, which is an adaptation of an idea that I developed when someone else reached out to me to direct a Hindi film that I wanted to pitch to Shah Rukh.”

When the interviewer responded that he hoped it would happen, Sukumaran nodded in affirmation, saying, “Subaskaran sir was really excited about the idea.”

During to same interview, Prithviraj spoke about reuniting with Mohanlal for Empuraan, the second instalment of Lucifer. Talking about the ambitious project, he noted that 35 per cent of the film is being shot in Hindi. In fact, he intends to leave Empuraan in this way in all the languages that it will be released in.

“The first 25 minutes of the film would feel like a Hindi film”, said Sukumaran. He further added that opening up the markets is good for a film like Empuraan, which is very ‘national and international’ in nature.

Talking about the hype around the extensive use of VFX, Prithviraj said, “I am notorious for preferring to shoot in real. There are extensive CGI sequences, but I mostly like to shoot in real locations. Be it the chopper scenes, the explosions, most of them are not VFX.”
