Before Jisoo became the global icon she is today, her journey with YG Entertainment began in an unexpected way. In a candid appearance on Dex’s show, Fridge Interview, she shared some lesser-known details about her YG audition. Surprisingly, Jisoo confessed that she had no prior knowledge of the company until she joined it.

With her innate talent, it’s no surprise that Jisoo originally applied to join YG as an actress, aspiring to follow in the footsteps of other big-name stars. However, things took an unexpected turn when she arrived for her audition. Instead of acting, they asked her to sing. For her performance, Jisoo chose the song I Have A Lover. She even demonstrated this unique audition technique during the interview, revealing that she didn’t use a microphone, as the emphasis was on capturing her expressions on film.

Yet, before she even had the chance to show her skills, the first question she got was, “Do you have a boyfriend?” Jisoo recalled that she happened to be wearing a fashion ring that day, which immediately caught the audition panel’s attention. They assumed it was a sign of a relationship, prompting the unexpected inquiry. She quickly clarified, saying, “It was just a ring.”

Despite originally auditioning as an actress, YG must have seen something special in her. That same day, she received a call from the company asking her to come back the next morning to start training. And from there – well, the rest is history.

Jisoo’s star power was clear from the very beginning, and YG Entertainment wasted no time in signing her.

Since BLACKPINK’s official debut under YG in 2016, the group has soared to global fame, shattering records and redefining the K-pop scene. As their success continues to skyrocket, rumours have swirled about potential contract renegotiations to match their rising influence and unprecedented popularity.

Outside of music, Jisoo has also made her mark in acting. She first dipped her toes into the field with a cameo in The Producers (2015) before landing her first leading role in the JTBC series Snowdrop (2021–22), proving her versatility as an artist. Then, in March 2023, she made her highly anticipated solo debut with her album ME. The album shattered records, becoming the best-selling album by a female soloist in South Korea and the first to surpass one million copies sold.

Like her fellow BLACKPINK members, Jisoo has expanded her reach beyond the group’s activities. Before the group officially parted ways with YG for their solo careers, Jisoo released a two-track single bundle, ME, featuring Flower and All Eyes on Me, songs that have collectively racked up over 600 million streams on Spotify, informs Variety.
