In the competitive world of South Korean showbiz, idol trainees and aspiring actors face immense pressure to undergo strict physical transformations to meet the industry’s “beauty standards”. However, some celebrities, like BLACKPINK’s Jisoo, choose to defy these pressures and embrace their natural selves, thus standing strong against conforming to these rigid beauty norms.
In a teaser video of the upcoming episode of TEO’s YouTube show Salon Drip 2, the 30-year-old BLACKPINK member candidly shared that she was probably the first trainee of her kind to enter YG Entertainment. Explaining the statement, she revealed that once, her label asked her to shed a few kilos. But Jisoo, being the free-spirited and confident person she is, stood up for herself and denied their request. “The company would be like, lose some weight. And I would say that I liked my chubby self,” said the K-pop idol.
This revelation by Jisoo immediately caught attention on the internet, with many praising the idol for standing up for herself confidently and not conforming to the age-old beauty standards.
WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH JISOO
One of her fans said, “A 16-year-old being told to lose weight by grown men in positions of power and having enough maturity, self-love and mental strength to refuse saying she is happy with the way she looks is actually INSANE. I have so much love and respect for Jisoo.”
Another wrote, “Jisoo’s personality is really unique. How can somebody be so mature, elegant, classy, wise and quirky, cute, funny at the same time? Sooya, you are amazing.”
Meanwhile, another fan of the K-pop idol said, “Get them!! We stan a confident queen with such a great mindset. She truly is an example with the way she always stays true to herself and knows how to set boundaries in order to stay at peace with herself.”
Speaking of Jisoo’s work front, the BLACKPINK member is not only making her music comeback but will soon be seen on the small screen in a new K-drama. The 30-year-old K-pop idol is all set to appear in the new zombie outbreak-based drama titled Newtopia, opposite actor Park Jeong Min. The drama, directed by Yoon Sung Hyun, will premiere on February 7 on Coupang Play and Amazon Prime Video. On the other hand, she will be releasing her mini album Amortage on February 14, 2025.
