Iconic talk show host Oprah Winfrey celebrated her 71st birthday on January 29. On the day, Winfrey reflected on her childhood, the power of belief and life’s miracles, in a long post. Through this, she encouraged her fans to appreciate all that life has to offer. Recalling her time in rural Mississippi, she noted, “It all started with two people, my father Vernon and mother Vernita. My first six years of life, I was raised by my grandmother, who gave me my life’s greatest gift. She taught me I was God’s child. ‘All things are possible,’ she would tell me, and I believed her.”

Winfrey admitted growing up, she never considered her early years in rural Mississippi miraculous. However, it was because of her birthplace that she grew up loving trees and books. This leads her to conclude, “Now I know every breath, every choice defines the greater outcome.” She also affirmed her father in the power of belief. She noted, “You don’t become what you want, not even your greatest desires. You become what you believe.”

Oprah continued her philosophy by saying it is a miracle that we have a chance to grow better every day. She mentioned that she never imagined seeing 71 and expressed gratitude for her time on Earth.

The author then draws the reader’s attention to the giant book that we can see her reading in the pictures. She noted that it was a gift from her ‘only friend of 49 years’ Maria Shriver. As mentioned in the caption, Shriver collected all the love letters Winfrey had received from friends and family over the years and had them leather-bound to present to her as a gift.

She finally thanked all her fans for their kind words and wishes for her on her birthday. “I feel them all, Its my love language,” Winfrey concluded.

Winfrey’s 71st birthday did not go unnoticed by her friends. Kerry Washington posted a photo of them with a confetti effect. “Happy Birthday to the QUEEN. Love you so much,” she wrote over the picture. Filmmaker Ava DuVernay wrote via Instagram, “Blessed and beautiful birthday to this light in the world. Happy 71st.” Holly Robinson Peete and her husband Rodney also wished Winfrey by posting a 2007 group picture of them with Barack and Michelle Obama.
