In an intriguing revelation, Shahid Kapoor recently teased a connection between Deva and the 1975 classic Deewaar. The actor, in a chat, hinted that his upcoming film has “relevance” to Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic character Vijay. In the flick, he portrays a rebellious cop on a revenge spree who calls himself a mafia. One of the posters released earlier also saw Shahid’s character smoking a cigarette in front of a mural of Mr Bachchan from the iconic film.
When asked whether there is any connection between the two films, Shahid Kapoor, in a roundtable interview with PTI, said, “This question should be for Rosshan because he was the one who chose that. There is relevance within the film.”
“A performance in a film like that makes every actor feel humble. Talking about Amit Ji we have all grown up watching him, we have idolised him as a star. The film had a strong story, very good interpersonal dynamics, great dialogues and stellar performances. It’s a great memory for all of us,” Shahid Kapoor went on as he talked about legendary star Amitabh Bachchan and his film Deewaar.
Deewaar turned 50 on January 21. Directed by Yash Chopra, the action drama was written by Salim-Javed and explores the lives of two poor brothers Vijay and Ravi as they struggle to survive in the slums of Mumbai. Vijay, the elder brother, turns to the world of crime whereas Ravi becomes an honest police officer.
As for Deva, the film is produced by Roy Kapur Films in collaboration with Zee Studios. It will hit the screens on January 31. Following its arrival in cinemas, the film will make its way to the OTT platform. Its streaming partner is Netflix. However, the release date has not been mentioned. The cast of the movie also includes Pooja Hegde who plays a journalist, Pavail Gulati, Pravessh Rana and Kubbra Sait. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, the film is produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Umesh KR Bansal.
Apart from Deva, Shahid Kapoor also has director Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming untitled project in his kitty. It is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. Triptii Dimri, Nana Patekar and Randeep Hooda will also star in pivotal roles in what is touted to be a gangster drama. The film is slated to release on December 5 this year.
