A tantalising teaser has finally dropped for FX’s upcoming TV series Alien: Earth which brings the iconic Alien franchise to the small screen for the first time. Directed by Noah Hawley, the show promises to reimagine the longest-running sci-fi horror, this time taking viewers to the Earth in 2120. The series is said to be a prequel to Ridley Scott’s 1979 Alien, the first film in the franchise. The 30-second teaser is intense, giving a glimpse of what went down inside a crash-landing spaceship from the view of a Xenomorph.
As the teaser unfolded, it showed the alien trying to escape the containment aboard a spacecraft bound for Eart. As the creature prowls through the ship’s dark corridors amid flickering red lights, an automated voice can be heard in the background that repeats, “Containment breach.”
Navigating past the wreckage, exposed wires, and other extraterrestrial creatures, the Xenomorph eventually slams into a window, setting the stage for the horror to descend on the Earth. Apart from the teaser, the network also released a poster of Alien: Earth, giving a closer look at the monster and its massive head. “We were safer in space,” the caption reads. Leading the cast in the Alien series is Sydney Chandler as the project lead followed by Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, and Samuel Blenkin among others.
As per the show synopsis, it tracks the series of events after a “mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat.” The members of the crash continue searching for survivors, only to encounter the mysterious creature, which is even more terrifying than they could have ever imagined. “With this new threat, the crew members must fight for survival and choose how the discovery could change the planet as they know it.”
Speaking about the same, director Hawley told Deadline, “There’s something about seeing a Xenomorph in the wilds of Earth with your own eyes. That is truly chilling to think of it moving here among us, and so I can’t tell you under what circumstances you’ll see that, but you’ll see it — and you’re going to lock your door that night.”
While Alien: Earth is believed to have a standalone story with a new cast, it is unlikely to connect to the franchise’s most recent release Alien: Romulus. The show will premiere on Hulu and Disney+ Hotstar this year.
