Days after a semi-burnt body of an unidentified woman was found near the Outer Ring Road culvert at Muneerabad village in Medchal, the police arrested the man behind the murder.
The accused was identified as Shaik Emam, 37, a stone cutter from Karimnagar district, who was residing in Shamirpet.
Following a complaint on January 24, the Medchal police booked a case and issued a look-out circular detailing the victim’s tattoos and jewellery. The deceased’s relatives recognised the identifying marks and informed the police that she was a native of Bodhan in Nizamabad district. The deceased reportedly left her family following a dispute and was residing in Kushaiguda, Hyderabad, where she worked as a labourer. She used to occasionally visit her relatives in Medchal and had connections with people living in the area.
The investigation revealed that on January 23, 2025, the accused travelled to Medchal to purchase stone-cutting blades. He met the woman there and had a heated argument. In a fit of rage, the accused strangled her until she became unconscious and then struck her head with a stone, killing her instantly. In an attempt to erase all evidence, he poured petrol over the body and set it ablaze,” the police said.
Special teams were formed to analyse call detail records of the deceased’s mobile phone and scrutinising CCTV footage from multiple locations, leading to the identification and arrest of the accused at Majeedpur on Janaury 25.
The police seized a Redmi mobile phone as part of the evidence in the case.
