Mamta Kulkarni, the bold and glamorous Bollywood star of the ’90s, has once again captured attention—this time for her spiritual journey. The actress, who recently took sanyaas during the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 with the Kinnar Akhara, has declared that returning to the film industry is unimaginable for her. Reflecting on her transformation, she shared that her focus is now entirely on spirituality, marking a significant departure from her Bollywood days.
In a candid conversation with India Today, Mamta stated, “I can’t even imagine doing films again. It is absolutely impossible for me now.” She described her spiritual journey as deeply fulfilling, likening her honor as a Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhara to winning an Olympic medal after 23 years of devotion.
The Kinnar Akhara, which represents the divine Ardhnareshwar form of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, resonated with her desire for freedom and spiritual awakening. Mamta expressed her gratitude for the blessings of Goddess Adishakti, saying that her journey has been guided by divine will.
During the Maha Kumbh Mela, Mamta performed the sacred pind daan at the Sangam and was crowned as the Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhara. She has since taken the name Shri Yamai Mamta Nand Giri, embracing her new role as a spiritual leader. This prestigious title within the Dashanami order is granted to respected Hindu monks entrusted with promoting Sanatan Dharma.
In an earlier interview with ANI, Mamta revealed that her decision was guided by Mahadev, Maha Kaali, and her Guru. She shared that the timing was beyond her control, emphasizing that it was all part of a divine plan.
Mamta Kulkarni, once a celebrated actress known for films like Karan Arjun, has remained out of the spotlight for years. Her choice to renounce worldly pursuits and embrace a spiritual life with the Kinnar Akhara signifies a profound shift, ushering in a transformative chapter in her journey.
