Shahid Kapoor reflects on heartbreak, emotional growth, and lessons learned from past relationships.
Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor, set to grace the screen in his upcoming action thriller Deva, recently shared candid insights about dealing with heartbreak and the lessons it taught him. Reflecting on his past relationships, Shahid admitted to feelings of inadequacy and neediness, acknowledging these as selfish tendencies he has worked to understand and overcome. His honest take on emotional growth is resonating widely with fans.
During a podcast with Raj Shamani, Shahid Kapoor opened up about the pain of heartbreak. He confessed, “Sometimes, when your heart breaks, you feel you are not good enough, obviously.”
He elaborated that deep love, followed by rejection, often drives people to desperate attempts to salvage the relationship. However, this pursuit, Shahid pointed out, can sometimes come at the cost of self-respect and dignity—a realization that tends to dawn only after years of introspection.
Sharing a key lesson from his experiences, Shahid highlighted the importance of self-awareness and understanding the impact of a relationship. While love itself is powerful, he noted, it’s crucial to determine if the relationship fosters growth or brings out negative traits. “Ultimately, you have to live with yourself,” he emphasized.
Drawing from his personal journey, Shahid reflected on the concept of giving in relationships. “I am needy, I need to be comforted, I need to be made to feel like I am so important—these are selfish things,” he admitted. He stressed that true love lies in giving selflessly, without seeking validation or comfort to fulfill personal needs.
Shahid further explained that when both partners focus on giving, the relationship thrives naturally, with no undue pressure or expectations. However, he warned that feelings of entitlement or the tendency to demand things could lead to tension and strain in the relationship. “If something doesn’t come naturally, it might be a sign that either the person isn’t right for you, or you’re not right for them,” he added.
He also touched upon a common misconception in relationships—assuming one fully understands their partner. According to Shahid, as relationships deepen, these assumptions often break down, leading people to believe their partner has changed. “In reality, you might simply be discovering a deeper, previously unexplored side of them,” he explained.
On the professional front, Shahid Kapoor is gearing up for the release of Deva, in which he plays a cop. The film also stars Pooja Hegde, Pavail Gulati, Pravessh Rana, and Kubbra Sait. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Umesh KR Bansal, Deva is slated to hit theaters on January 31, 2025, promising an action-packed cinematic experience.
