Attacking the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed three rallies in the national capital on Saturday (January 25, 2025), ahead of the Delhi Assembly election.
Alleging that the AAP kept on lying, Mr. Shah said that though its leaders had promised not to take bungalows and cars, they did; in fact “they constructed a ‘sheesh mahal’ [palace]”, a reference to party chief Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence.
Mr. Shah alleged that inside the sheesh mahal, there were facilities such as gold toilet, remote-controlled curtains and doors, and much more”. With whose money was it built, he asked.
He added that the AAP had said that it would not join hands with the Congress, but it did, just like how Mr. Kejriwal had said “we will not start a political party”, but he did. The AAP leaders said they would not be corrupt, but they had become so.
The BJP leader also listed the major “scams” of the AAP in all sectors of the capital, including panic buttons in taxis, fake medicines and tests in Mohalla clinics and liquor scam. Mr. Shah asked the people if the AAP had fulfilled any of its promises, including a pollution-garbage-corruption-free Delhi. He said that none of the promises made by the AAP were fulfilled
During the rally, Mr. Shah reiterated that the BJP planned not only to continue the ongoing welfare schemes but better them. “A very serious lie has been spread by the AAP, I was told by people working in my home that they are getting calls saying that if the BJP comes to power, it will stop the welfare schemes for the poor of the capital. But I am telling you today, PM Modi has said that no welfare schemes will be stopped in Delhi. And what he says, he makes sure it happens.”
“I want to appeal to the AAP not to spread these lies, but I know it will continue this dirty politics because those who did not listen to Anna Hazare will not listen to me also,” Mr. Shah said.
Speaking on the poll promises made by the BJP, Mr. Shah said: “Whatever Prime Minister Narendra Modi decides, he makes sure it happens; similarly, the BJP will make sure everything that we have promised in our Sankalp Patra (manifesto), will be fulfilled.”
“Everything we promised, including Ram Mandir, Kashi-Mathura corridor, scrapping of Article 370, and so many more, we made it all happen,” Mr. Shah said.
He alleged that the AAP had been settling Rohingya and Bangladeshis in Delhi. “You bring the BJP to Delhi and we will oust infiltrators from India,” he said.
‘Vote out AAP’
If people wanted to make Delhi the number one capital in the world, they should vote for Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP to install a double-engine government in Delhi and remove the “tyrannical” AAP, he said.
“The AAP betrayed Delhi in all forms… it drowned Delhi in rains, ruined the roads in the name of connectivity. It did crores worth of liquor scam and opened liquor stores near schools, mandirs and gurudwaras,” Mr. Shah said.
The AAP government did not clean the Yamuna either, he said earlier in the day while releasing the BJP’s Sankalp Patra. AAP leaders “should go to the Maha Kumbh and take a dip there and ask for forgiveness for their sins”, he said.
Other senior party leaders from the BJP also held rallies in the capital. Polls in capital are scheduled for February 5.
