BJP leader Nitesh Rane sparked a controversy on Thursday after he raised questions over the knife attack on Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan wondering if the Bollywood star was “really attacked or if he was acting”.
Attacker Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir wanted to earn enough money and go out of India, said his father Ruhul Amin Fakir. Talking to media from Bangladesh, Ruhul, who works in a jute factory, said that they have no financial problem and he can’t even imagine his son would commit such a crime. The 54-year-old actor was stabbed by Shariful Islam, a Bangladeshi national, on the night on January 16 at his home in Mumbai’s Bandra. The accused was staying in India illegally.
Meanwhile, Bhajan Singh Rana, the auto driver who drove Saif Ali Khan to Lilavati Hospital after he was stabbed, said that he he made a promise to the actor to not reveal the reward money to anyone. “He has requested me not to share this information and I will keep my promise to him, whatever it is, it is between him and me,” Rana said, adding that let people speculate the amount of money. He, however, added that one social worker, Faizan Ansari, had given him Rs 11,000 separately.
Mumbai police late last night recorded Saif Ali Khan’s statement in the January 16 stabbing case. According to Saif Ali Khan, he had held the attacker tight but his “grip loosened when he was stabbed again and again in the back”.
