Assam CM Advocates For Healthcare Investment And Economic Growth During Japan Visit

Tokyo, Jan 23: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma continued his international efforts to attract investment as part of the Advantage Assam 2.0 Roadshow, engaging with over 160 business leaders in Tokyo. The focus of the visit was to promote healthcare development and industrial growth in Assam.

Following his successful visit to South Korea, Sarma began his Japan trip by paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Edogawa, where he received a warm reception from the Assamese diaspora. After his cultural engagement, Sarma proceeded with his official meetings, addressing the Advantage Assam Roadshow to present the state’s vision for attracting investments. He emphasized Assam’s commitment to creating an environment of simplicity, transparency, and efficiency in its policies.

A major highlight of Sarma’s trip was his meeting with Kazuo Ofuchi, Managing Executive Officer of Konoike Transport, during which he invited the company to explore investment opportunities in Assam’s healthcare sector. Sarma stressed the state’s plan to build 23 new medical colleges and hospitals as part of its larger initiative to improve public health infrastructure.

In addition to healthcare, Sarma discussed Assam’s growing industrial potential with leaders in renewable energy, semiconductors, and other sectors. He proposed the creation of a dedicated Japanese Business Park in Assam to host Japanese industries and outlined a USD 3 billion Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme to encourage industrial investment in the state.

Sarma also held discussions with Japan’s State Minister for Economy, Trade, and Industry, Koga Yuichiro, about skilling initiatives for Assam’s youth. He further engaged with Kazuya Nakajo from the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) to strengthen trade and commerce ties between Assam and Japan.

This visit underscores Assam’s aspirations to become a premier industrial hub in India’s Act East Policy, with strong support from the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
