The Yadavgiri Residents Association is organizing a candlelight march on January 26 at 7 p.m. in a bid to promote public involvement in keeping Mysuru green and clean.

It is also a one-of-its-kind Republic Day celebration, according to the organisers who said that the candlelight march will commence from Jawa Circle and pass through Vivekananda Road, ending at Akashwani Circle.

The convenors, S.K. Dinesh and Bhamy V. Shenoy, said the MP for Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar will flag off the march which does not impress upon the public to monitor cleanliness in their respective areas and ensure that no one throws garbage on the roads.

MLA for Chamaraja constituency K. Harish Gowda, former MP Prathap Simha, former MLA L. Nagendra, and others will take part in it.

One of the driving forces to organise the event is to convey the message that people are as much responsible for keeping the surroundings clean just as the Mysuru City Corporation is. “Often we end up blaming the MCC without reflecting where we have gone wrong and what we should do,” said the organizers.
