Hubballi-Dharwad Mayor Ramanna Badiger has promised to redress civic problems in a time-bound manner and for the purpose, he will appoint a nodal officer.

Speaking to presspersons after the first Phone-in Programme with the Mayor in Hubballi on Wednesday, Mr. Badiger said that in all he received 49 calls from the public on various issues, including water supply, waste segregation, road repair and problems with e-swattu documents.

“Regular issues will be solved within 24 hours. And, for issues concerning pipeline, underground drainage and other issues, a deadline of 15 days will be given to resolve them. A nodal officer will be appointed to monitor the whole grievance redressal mechanism,” he said.

The Mayor said that the helpline set up by the municipal corporation received hundreds of calls every day and they are being forwarded to authorities concerned.

“If the complaints received during the phone-in programme are already registered with the helpline, then show-cause notice will be issued to the officials for failure to redress the problem,” he said.

Municipal Commissioner Eshwar Ullagaddi said that that the number of black spots where waste is being dumped indiscriminately is increasing and to check the practice, marshals will be posted at such sites to penalise violators. This apart, it has been proposed to purchase 77 auto tippers, he said.

Regarding the lack of amenities in private residential layouts, he said that it has been decided that the municipal corporation will allow handing over layouts only after completion of 80% of the works on providing basic amenities.

Complaints

Earlier, during the 90-minute phone-in programme, the Mayor promised time-bound solution to the problems raised by the general public.

A majority of the complaints are from extension areas, particularly from layouts not yet handed over to the municipal corporation. The other complaints pertained to street lighting, water pressure problems, waste collection services and stray dog concerns.
