The first part of the 2.5-inch-long knife was recovered from inside the actor’s body during his emergency surgery.

Police had earlier said the accused (R) had entered the area by scaling its compound wall and found security guards sleeping at the gate.

The third piece of the knife used to attack Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra home on January 16 has been recovered. The knife was allegedly stolen from a restaurant in Thane, where the accused had previously worked.

Khan was reportedly attacked by Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir (30), also known as Vijay Das, a Bangladeshi national staying illegally in India.

A Bandra police station official said, “The third piece of the knife, which comprises the handle and some part of the blade, was recovered from close to Bandra Talao, more than a kilometre away from the actor’s residence in Satguru Sharan building. We took the accused to the lake on Wednesday evening and recovered this missing part of the knife.”

The first part of the blade had broken off and lodged near the actor’s spine during the attack, which had to be surgically removed at Lilavati Hospital. The second part was later found in Khan’s house during the ‘panchnama’ process.

The police also revealed that the accused walked 1.4 kilometres after the incident and disposed of the knife. “He admitted to stealing the knife from the Thane restaurant where he worked,” the official added.

Earlier, two parts of the knife were recovered: one during Khan’s emergency surgery and the second in his house after the attack.

Police Recreate Crime Scene

The Mumbai Police also recreated the crime scene at the actor’s 12-storey Bandra residence with the accused on Tuesday.

It was learnt that the accused had entered Khan’s younger son Jeh’s room but was spotted by a domestic help who raised an alarm, prompting the actor to intervene.

During the altercation, the actor was attacked with a knife around six times which left him grievously injured.

Saif was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where doctors performed immediate surgery to take out the piece of knife that was lodged in his back, as well as to stop leakage of spinal fluid. He was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday, five days after the January 16 incident.

Notably, the actor on Tuesday met and thanked the auto-rickshaw driver who had taken him to the hospital following the attack, before he returned home from hospital. Saif also reportedly gave money to the driver for helping him in his tough time. Veteran actress and the actor’s mother, Sharmila Tagore, also thanked and blessed him.
