Rashmika Mandanna said she had to rehearse to get the language right for her role.
Rashmika Mandanna is currently gearing up for the release of her upcoming movie, Chhaava. Chhaava is a historical drama that revolves around the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Rashmika Mandanna will essay the role of his wife, Maharani Yesubai. At the film’s trailer launch event on Wednesday, Rashmika said that she was shocked when she was offered the role by director Laxman Utekar.
Rashmika said, “I remember being absolutely shocked ki how did Laxman sir even think of giving me a role like this to play? I just surrendered… you don’t have a reference. It’s a story. You know their story and they are such majestical, impactful characters and personalities. How do you play them?”
The actress added, “For me, specifically, I just surrendered to what Laxman sir wanted. There was of course a lot of rehearsal in terms of language and everything. But, it’s just the trust you have in the team because you know that if someone has to pull this off, you shouldn’t have any sort of barriers with yourself. You just have to say, ‘Sir, I am all in. Whatever you ask for, I am here to deliver.'”
“It’s an honour. For a girl coming from the South to play a Maharani is the most privileged and special thing that I could ask for in this lifetime. I was just telling Laxman sir that I feel like after this, I will be happy enough to retire,” she mentioned.
Besides Rashmika, the film will feature Vicky Kaushal in the titular role. The trailer is a visual feast with intense war scenes, offering a powerful introduction to Vicky as the formidable son of the legendary Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The film also stars Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta in key roles.
The trailer of Chhava sets the stage for an intense battle of wills between the Marathas and the Mughals. As the Marathas strive to establish Swaraj, a vision of freedom and safety for all, the Mughal empire stands firm, vowing to crush any rebellion against its dominance. The dialogue crackles with tension, warning of the silent but deadly hunt that awaits those who challenge the empire.
