The 29-year-old K-pop idol is collaborating with international talents like Dua Lipa, Childish Gambino, Doechii and Dominic Fike for her solo album.
It’s official! BLACKPINK’s Jennie is releasing her first-ever full-length album pretty soon. Just days after teasing her fans with pictures of herself inside a studio, the 29-year-old K-pop idol dropped a post announcing the release of her first solo album titled Ruby on March 7, 2025. Jennie’s highly anticipated project will also feature international talents like Dua Lipa, Childish Gambino, Doechii, Dominic Fike, FKJ, and Kali Uchis.
On Tuesday, January 21, Jennie shared the announcement, along with a teaser video, giving her fans a slight glimpse of what they can expect from her first album. According to her pre-order launch information, her album Ruby is a collaboration between Jennie’s independent label ODDATELIER and Columbia Records. The album will comprise 15 carefully curated songs of various genres, including her smash hit single Mantra, which was released in October 2024.
The teaser video showcases the BLACKPINK member in a never-seen avatar, wearing a red wig and black clothes, which piqued the interest of her fans. At one point in the few-second clip, Jennie sings, “In the dark I grew, money cannot buy no real friends.” Sharing the video, Jennie wrote, “MY FIRST STUDIO ALBUM COMING SOON. RUBY. MARCH 7TH.” The announcement surely created a buzz among her fans and left them waiting for her much-awaited album.
On the post, one of her fans said, “You’re the greatest and my favourite artist. I’m so anxious and excited to listen to your first studio album. I love you so much, Jennie,” whereas another remarked, “SHE’S BAAAACKKKK.” Someone else wrote, “Bro the lineup is insane.” Another fan of the K-pop idol penned, “So many collaborations in one album? Jennie is gonna slay hard.”
Previously, in an interview with Billboard, the 29-year-old BLACKPINK member spoke about her first-ever album. “I intend to complete myself as Jennie Ruby-Jane, for that to be a whole person, in a way,” revealed Jennie, adding, “You’ll definitely know what I mean once the album drops, but because I’m playing with a lot of different genres and elements — I’m rapping here, I’m singing here, I’m harmonising here, I’m talking here … The overall sound was me making sure I like every single [song]. I didn’t want to be forced into putting a song onto my album — that’s what I really fought for.”
Speaking of Jennie, she made her debut in K-pop in 2016 with the girl group BLACKPINK alongside Jisoo, Lisa and Rose. In 2018, she made her solo debut with the song Solo. Before releasing her full-length album, Jennie dropped the singles You & Me and Mantra.
