Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Manipur’s Statehood Day, the Congress accused him of “abdicating” his responsibility by “outsourcing” the crisis in the State to Home Minister Amit Shah while “stubbornly refusing” to visit the strife-torn State.
Within hours of the Prime Minister wishing Meghalaya, Manipur, and Tripura on X, on the occasion of their Statehood Day on Tuesday (January 21, 2025), Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took a dig at him over the continuing ethnic conflict in Manipur.
“His Statehood Day greetings are hollow and reflect his hypocrisy – which knows no limits,” the Congress’s communications chief said in his post on X. “Outsourcing Manipur to the Union Home Minister is an abdication of Prime Ministerial responsibility and has proved disastrous,” he added.
‘Refused meetings’
Mr. Ramesh also pointed out that the PM had “stubbornly refused to visit” Manipur since the conflict broke out. “He has gone all over the world but has not found the time nor the inclination to reach out to the people of the State in Imphal and other places. Mr. Modi has stubbornly refused to meet MLAs of his own party in the State. He has not had a one-on-one meeting with the CM, nor has he met with MPs, political leaders, and civil society organisations of the State,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Modi made three posts on X wishing Meghalaya, Manipur, and Tripura. In his wish for Manipur, the PM said, “Greetings to the people of Manipur on their Statehood Day. We are incredibly proud of the role played by the people of Manipur towards India’s development. My best wishes for the progress of Manipur.”
On Tuesday (January 21, 2025) morning, Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi too wished the States on X for their Statehood Day.
