General Education Minister V. Sivankutty on Tuesday released the logo of Sreenarayanaguru Open University’s (SGOU) first athletic meet being held on January 31 and February 1.
In the event held at the Minister’s chamber, Vice-Chancellor V.P. Jagathy Raj was also present. The logo was designed by Kollam resident U.M. Binny. The meet is being organised with the cooperation of the Sports Kerala Foundation atKerala University Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
Nearly 1,000 students from various age groups currently enrolled in the university are participating. Registration was open until January 15 and the competitions are categorised into age groups: below 25, 26-35, 36-50, and 51 and above.
At present, over 53,000 students from 23 study centres across Kerala are enrolled in the SGOU. This meet provides an opportunity for all of them to showcase their talent.
The two-day meet will feature various track and field events, including 100 m sprint, along with 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1,500 m, 5,000 m, 4×100 m, and 4×400 m relay. Field events such as high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw, and 3 km and 5 km walks will also be held. The competitions will be conducted as per the rules and regulations of the International Association of Athletics Federations and Sreenarayanaguru Open University Athletic Meet 2024-25.
