Assam Cabinet Approves Rs 2,000 Crore For Women And Youth Empowerment Schemes

Guwahati, Jan 16: The Assam cabinet has approved a Rs 2,000 crore allocation for the implementation of various schemes aimed at empowering women and youth in the state. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made the announcement after a cabinet meeting on Thursday.

The funds will support initiatives like the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Asoni (MMMUA), Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asoni, and other related programs for 2024-25. The cabinet also approved the guidelines for MMMUA, with seed capital distribution set to begin in April.

Sarma noted that while 31 lakh women are eligible for MMMUA, the scheme will initially benefit 27 lakh women due to budgetary constraints. The program will begin in Behali with specific eligibility criteria in place.

Additionally, the cabinet approved an increase in Assam Power Generation Company Ltd’s share capital from Rs 3,000 crore to Rs 6,000 crore, and allocated Rs 401.50 crore for projects under the Bodoland Territorial Council. Development projects for Morigaon district, including infrastructure upgrades, were also approved.

The Chief Minister also expressed readiness to establish another industrial park in Jagiroad, where Tata Group is setting up a semiconductor unit, contingent on the district administration providing 1,000 bighas of land without complications.
