Guwahati, January 08: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called on diplomats, industry leaders, and global investors to explore the growing opportunities in Assam, emphasizing the state’s progress and future potential. In his address to a gathering of Ambassadors, High Commissioners from ASEAN, BIMSTEC, and European countries, as well as representatives from key industries, Sarma outlined the state’s strategic advantages and upcoming projects.
The Chief Minister highlighted Rs 1 lakh crore worth of upcoming infrastructure initiatives, including new bridges over the Brahmaputra, a satellite city near Guwahati developed with Singapore’s assistance, and a railway line linking Guwahati to Gelephu in Bhutan. He also underscored Assam’s commitment to green energy, encouraging industries to adopt renewable energy solutions, including the Tata semiconductor plant at Jagiroad.
Sarma projected a strong economic future for the state, citing Assam’s 12.5% growth rate and its status as an emerging educational hub with institutions like IIT, AIIMS, and IIM. He also unveiled plans for a Rs 25,000 crore corpus fund aimed at driving industrialization in the state.
The Chief Minister further discussed Assam’s defense corridor project in partnership with the Ministry of Defence and highlighted the state’s skill development efforts, including training 10,000 youth through the North East Skill Centre.
Sarma invited the diplomats to experience the cultural richness of Assam by attending the Jhumur dance event on February 24, ahead of the Advantage Assam Summit 2.0, where 8,000 dancers will perform.
Chief Secretary Ravi Kota also presented an overview of Assam’s investment strengths, such as its location as a gateway to ASEAN countries, skilled workforce, and industry-friendly policies. The event, a precursor to the Advantage Assam Summit 2.0, saw the participation of Union Minister Piyush Goyal, FICCI leaders, and officials from Invest India.
