GUWAHATI: The 8th edition of South Point School Guwahati India Open International Rating Chess Tournament 2024 got under way at the South Point School here on Wednesday. The tournament was inaugurated by Dr S Lakshmanan, Secretary Govt of Assam. The inaugural session was also graced by Kavyashree Mahanta, Secretary, Govt of Assam, Dr B Kalyan Chakravarthy, Additional Chief Secretary, Govt of Assam, Krishnanjan Chanda, Principal, South Point School and others.
Altogether 396 players from across the country are participating in this 10 round Swiss League Fide Rated event which is jointly organized by Assam Chess Club and South Point School Chess Academy. A total of Rs 10 lakh will be awarded as Prize money for the event. International Master Mayank Chakraborty is the top seed of the tournament.
