
The 130th Maramon convention, billed as Asia’s largest annual Christian religious congregation, will kick off to a start on the Pampa riverbed near Kozhencherry on Sunday.
Theodosius Mar Thoma, Metropolitan of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, will inaugurate the event at a function to be presided over by Isaac Mar Philoxenos. Besides, the bishops in the Mar Thoma Church, the convention also features Jerry Pillay, general secretary of the World Council of Churches, Victor Aloyo, president of the Columbia Theological Seminary, Major Archbishop Mar Raphel Thattil, Archbishop Mar Thomas Tharayil, among others.
The sessions will be held at 9.30 a.m., 2.30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on all days. Bible classes will be held at 7.30 a.m. The event will draw to a close on February 16.
A huge pandal that can accommodate one lakh people has been erected at the venue and the construction of a temporary foot bridge across the river to the venue too has been completed.
The event is being be organised in adherence to the green protocol and volunteers have been deployed to remove the waste collected on a timely basis. As many as 24 subcommittees have been constituted to ensure smooth conduct of the event. The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation will be operating special services to the convention venue.
A chatbot named Maramate has been launched to provide users with information about the event in both Malayalam and English.
